    Frequently Asked Questions

What file formats do you accept?

I work exclusively with PDF format on my iPad in the iAnnotate app. Corrections, suggestions, and/or ares to double-check are shown in using yellow highlights and re notations. If you don’t have a process to convert your document to PDF, there is a free program available at CutePDFWriter that you can utilize.

Does the transcript need to be scoped?

Yes. Please keep in mind that a proofreader is not a scopist. These are two different roles meant to be completed by two different people. The report, scopist, and proofreader must all work together in tandem in order to produce the most error-free document possible.

How quickly can you turn around a transcript?

I offer turnaround times from standard (48-72+ hours) to immediate (<12 hours). Weekend availability means I can handle tight Monday deadlines.

How do you handle technical or medical transcripts?

My engineering background taught me to research what I don’t know, so your specialized transcripts are in good hands. I take the time to verify technical terminology and ensure consistency. There will be an extra charge of $0.10 per page if the transcript is super dense with technical terminology. For example, medical depositions where a doctor talks about a patient’s treatment or why standard of care wasn’t met.

    What are your rates?

Download my current rate sheet for detailed pricing information. Rates vary based on turnaround time and transcript complexity.

    How do you handle payment?

Invoices are billed the first week of the following month and are due within 15 days. I accept PayPal, Zelle, credit card, or direct deposit. For new or one-time clients, payment for the first job is due before further jobs can be accepted.

    What resources do you use?

    • Court Reporting: Bad Grammar/Good Punctuation by Margie Wakeman Wells
    • The Essential 99 Punctuation Rules for Court Reporters by Kenneth Wick
    • Morson’s English Guide for Court Reporters
    • Google
    • Merriam-Webster Dictionary

Are there any extra fees for weekend or holidays?

No, there are no extra fees for weekends or holidays.

What happens if I am not available to take a job?

I always try to provide ample notice ahead of time if I am not available to accept a job or meet a deadline. I can also recommend backup proofreaders to step in when that happens.
